University Foundation Course

University Foundation Course

The programme is recognized by Oxford Brookes University and 19 other UK Universities . It leads to entry to various undergraduate programmes in Business and Management, the Humanities , Sciences and Engineering.

It lasts for one academic year, with three terms each of 12 weeks, but occasionally more intensive, shorter programmes are possible. There is some flexibility with starting dates, but normally students would begin in September, January , April or July. To be admitted to the programmes students must normally have their English language level at IELTS 5.0 or TOEFL 500 or equivalent. Students who are not at this level may first take an intensive English course at OISC. They must also have completed their senior high school certificate successfully.

There are 20 lessons (each 45 minutes ) each week, together with educational counselling periods with the Director of Studies, when students are helped with their university applications and also offered careers advice.

The programme has three main elements:

IELTS preparation

Students follow the requirements of the IELTS examination, which encompasses the four skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Academic subjects

Students follow modules in their specialist subjects, with a choice of over 30 options.

Study Skills are an essential support for many students who would benefit from help with revision planning, time management, essay writing and related matters. They are an essential academic skill for anyone about to enter University.

Students are assessed through a combination of coursework and internal examinations (end of trimester and final examinations) and are also entered for the IELTS examination. The minimum expected for successful completion of the programme is at least 60% and each University  has its own requirements.
